Book Recommendation - The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities

The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities: A Yearbook of Forgotten Words - by Paul Anthony Jones

I’m endlessly passionate about languages, a trait which is obvious to everyone close to me and which usually results in a few language-themed birthday or Christmas presents every year. Yay!

Christmas 2025 was no exception. On Christmas morning, I was delighted to open one of my presents and find another language book to add to my growing collection - The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities by Paul Anthony Jones.

Jones’ book has a word-a-day format, and each page features the history, etymology and trivia behind a word forgotten by society. Although I’m less than a month into my personal challenge of reading a page a day, I’ve already learned many fascinating and surprising facts about the words Jones chose.

I’ve still got some 346 entries to go, and I’m looking forward to each and every one of them!
